Pickleball in Santa Maria, California
Santa Maria has a much more established public pickleball option than an old league listing suggests. Hagerman Sports Complex has six dedicated outdoor pickleball courts and is home to the Santa Maria Pickleball Club, with regular community play as well as City clinics, leagues, and tournaments. Santa Maria Country Club adds four lighted pickleball courts, instruction, open play, Live Ball, and social events for members and eligible guests.
If you are arriving alone, Hagerman is the first place to check. The courts have an established pickleball community, though community reports indicate that afternoon public play can be less structured than the club's morning play.
Where to Play Pickleball in Santa Maria
- Hagerman Sports Complex, 3300 Skyway Dr. The City built six regulation outdoor pickleball courts here with permanent nets and fencing, and the complex is home to the Santa Maria Pickleball Club. The City has historically allocated weekday morning court time to the club, followed by public court access later in the day. Current local player reports continue to describe morning club activity and afternoon public play, but the City's main facility page does not publish the present daily pickleball timetable. Call Recreation and Parks at (805) 925-0951 ext. 2260 when a specific time matters. Check Hagerman Sports Complex and reservation information.
- Santa Maria Country Club, 505 W. Waller Lane. This private club has four lighted pickleball courts in addition to its tennis facilities. Its racquet program includes year-round instruction and organized pickleball activities for members and eligible guests. The club publishes recurring open play on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings, Friday Live Ball, and monthly mixers. Because access is club-based, confirm the current member or guest requirements before attending. Check Santa Maria Country Club tennis and pickleball.
- Santa Maria Valley YMCA, 3400 Skyway Dr. The YMCA is immediately next to Hagerman Sports Complex, and current local players describe an active pickleball community associated with the facility. A dependable public pickleball timetable is not currently posted on the YMCA's primary program information, so contact the YMCA at (805) 937-8521 before making a trip specifically for pickleball.
New to Pickleball?
The City of Santa Maria continues to offer introductory pickleball programming at Hagerman rather than treating its previous programs as discontinued. The City's Spring/Summer 2026 recreation program included youth pickleball clinics at the Hagerman courts with equipment provided. These clinics run in sessions, so check current City recreation registration for the next beginner offering.
Adults should also watch the City recreation catalog. Santa Maria Recreation and Parks has previously run adult instructional clinics at Hagerman, and new offerings are posted by session rather than maintained as a permanent weekly class.
Santa Maria Country Club provides the more consistent coached option, with private, semi-private, and group pickleball instruction available through its racquet program. Confirm guest eligibility when booking if you are not a member. If neither group option fits your plans, use this site's Coaches section for individual instruction.
Open Play, Leagues, and Pickleball Events
Hagerman is the center of Santa Maria's public organized pickleball activity. The Santa Maria Pickleball Club uses the six-court complex for community play, and the City has used the same courts for adult leagues, clinics, youth programs, and tournaments. The City's Fall/Winter recreation program has also included the King & Queen of the Court Pickleball Tournament at Hagerman, benefiting People for Leisure and Youth and the Santa Maria Pickleball Club.
Because leagues and tournaments are seasonal, use Santa Maria Recreation and Parks registration for current programs instead of relying on a previous season's dates.
Santa Maria Country Club provides recurring club activity throughout the year. Its published program includes Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday morning open play, Friday Live Ball, monthly mixers, lessons, and other racquet events. Check the club's current pickleball information and confirm guest access before attending.
Visiting Santa Maria and Looking for a Game?
Start with Hagerman Sports Complex. Unlike a park that simply has pickleball lines, Hagerman has six purpose-built courts and an established local pickleball community. Morning play is associated with the Santa Maria Pickleball Club, making that the first period to investigate if you are traveling alone. Call Recreation and Parks at (805) 925-0951 ext. 2260 to confirm the current court-use schedule before traveling for a particular session.
Afternoon public court time can work well if you already have a partner or group. Recent community reports describe it as more informal, with players often arriving with people they already know, so a solo visitor should not assume there will always be a structured paddle rotation.
If you have access through a member, Santa Maria Country Club provides another predictable route through its recurring morning open play and other organized sessions. Confirm guest access with the club at (805) 937-2025 before arriving.
